Recycling Architectural Disasters- Second Hand Urbanism in Germany

This is an interesting article on recycling old Communist blocks in Germany. These gray, ugly, utilitarian, constraining buildings that popped up everywhere post WWII were for me, the European “Slums”.  I’m sure at the time of their conception, they were thought of as progressive urban development, but with time only the poorest of the city occupied the blocks.

So now, the giant slabs of concrete are being transformed into new houses.
