Although with a weakened EPA  and Republicans and big industry working hand in hand it’s hard not to be discouraged about the future.

at SXSW last weekend, i saw a series of shorts called “futurestates” – http://www.futurestates.tv.

most of the films dealt at some level with the fall out of environmental degradation – displacement due to rising waters, hermetic communities built around the notion of safe and controlled environments, the economy of melanin donation to keep the rich white safe from the hazards of sunlight without an ozone layer, etc. in general, the feeling about the future – at least according to these film makers – is pretty bleak. that said, there were a few quite interesting pieces of work in the mix. all the episodes are being published to the web site.
